EPILOGUE:
John rushed from the elevator and out into the long hallway of the hospital floor. Frantically he looked for someone, anyone, who could help him. His eyes landed on the young woman sitting at the reception area and he charged towards her.
‘Can I help you sir?’ Asked the young nurse, looking up from her computer. She was used to seeing frantic looking men in her job.
‘Yes, my wife was brought here over two hours ago. I got stuck in traffic and couldn’t meet her here in time,’ said John, wiping sweat from his brow with a shaking hand.
‘What’s your wife’s name sir?’ Asked the young nurse, fingers poised to start tapping at her computer keyboard.
‘Alice Walters,’ said John, unable to stand still, as he watched the nurse work with her computer.
‘She’s in room five,’ said the nurse with a big smile on her face, as she watched the frantic man race for the room.
Although normally a very polite person, John gave no thought to knocking on the door of room five. Instead he charged inside, unsure what to expect.
As he stood there in the doorway he could feel his heart fill with joy as he saw the midwife hand over a neatly wrapped package in a pink blanket to his wife Alice, who was sitting up in bed, layers of sweat and tears streaked her face yet she had never looked so happy as when the midwife handed over her precious bundle.
It was the sound of the baby crying that snapped John out of his daze as he stood there in the doorway unsure how to react.
‘Aren’t you going to come and say hello to your daughter?’ Asked Alice, a broad smile on her face as she watched her husband’s reaction.
Cautiously, John approached the bedside like he was trying to sneak up on a sleeping Tiger. He watched as his wife gingerly peeled back the pink blanket to reveal the most perfect baby girl he had ever seen. He could feel nothing but a mass of pride and love as he stared into the blue and green eyes of his daughter.
‘We’re going to need a name daddy,’ Said Alice playfully.
The question took John by surprise. They had been talking about what to call their child for several weeks but could never agree to any given name.
‘How about Maria?’ Said John, hoping that his wife would agree.
Alice looked at her brand new baby, her heart swelling with pride and love that goes beyond the realm of words. As she looked at her daughters’ unique and beautifully different eye’s she said: ‘Maria Rose Walters,’
‘That’s a lovely name,’ said the midwife as she quietly made her way outside and closed the door behind her.
John couldn’t help but nod in agreement as he stared at his daughter, ‘Maria Rose Walters. Welcome to your new family.’ If you enjoy this story and would like me to write more, please consider buying the ebook from Amazon using the link below. Thank you =)
