Indie Author Interview With Blessing Ikokwu Oruche

Next up for their turn in the interview chair is indie author Blessing Ikokwu Oruche. Read on to find out what makes this author tick:

Why do you write?

Because it is a passion. I always have the strong desire to write, and I feel I can tell a story through writing stories not just stories for fun sake but the type that can also effect a positive change in human lives.

When did you decide to become a writer?

I decided to be a writer when I came to the full consciousness of my abilities to create ideas in my head and that was when I was in high school. Once I had a pen with me the rest was history, I kept on writing on books, and on tables where ever I could.

What genre are your books?

Mystery, action, adventure, and a little bit of love

What draws you to this genre?

Because fictions stories are very inspiring and interesting if the right ideas are put together, and they are have also form the basis through which so many popular stories have been told and adapted into movie. I am more of a dreamer through those make believe dreams I am also able to form ideas.

Do you have a special time to write or how is your day structured?

I don’t have any particular time but rather I write when am inspired which can be any time and that is why I usually try to have my note pad and a pen handy where ever. It could be on a bus, cooking or even during discussion with people

What have you written?

The title of my novel is Chasing Shadows, sub title the troubled and haunted.

Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just seeing where an idea takes you?

I prefer to work to outline a plot because I always have a particular idea I want to build, that makes it easy for me and I find out that the stories outline it selves making my work very easy.

How do you market your books?

Through media publicity, Amazon, Barnes and Nobles, word of mouth and other online platforms.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors

Never be discouraged by the several books in the market. You and your idea always have a place in the literary world and are very relevant because the best is yet to come.

Give us an insight into your main character. What does he do that is so special?

Augustina is the main character. She is so special because even though she might appear soft and kind hearted, she has a big and strong personality to change things. Her strength comes from tough situations. She was able to solve so many mysteries and awkward situations surrounding

her family. Even though she experienced some traumatic experience at home she had a loud voice that could be heard changing the course of her destiny and that of so many deprived people in her country, and thus bringing out the girl power in her.

What is the hardest thing about writing?

Working on a deadline and not being inspired to pick up my pen to write it can be very dreadful and taunting but it is important to be original with my ideas rather than forcing them.

Which writers inspire you?
John Grisham, Danielle Steel.

What is the current book you are promoting?

The title is Chasing Shadows, sub title the troubled and the haunted.

Who is your favorite character in your book and why?

My favorite character is Augustina because the entire story revolves around her. She is a very rich heiress who never knew her worth very determined and used her girl power to achieve so much.

Who is your least favorite character and why?

My least favorite character is Matilda, Augustina supposed mum. Even though she wasn’t her biological mum she played an incomplete mother figure to her till the end until Augustina found out who her real mum was. Rather than speaking out and protecting Augustina from Darry, her supposed father. She was less active and Augustina had to suffer and never had support from the people she called family.

If your book were made into a movie, who would you cast?

Tom Cruise, Brad Pet, Blake Lively, Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone.

What is your next project?

My next project is a story titled the perfect wife. A story with a lot of suspense intrigue love and mystery surrounding a young woman who appears very perfect but has a lot of deep secrets.

What one person from history would you like to meet and why?

Shakespeare

Who is your favorite author?

John Grisham, Agatha Christie, Chinua Achebe, Danielle Steel.

Tell us something unique about you

I am usually happy when people are happy and sad when they are sad. Meaning I easily adapt to different situation. It can be a mere soap opera of a fiction scene where someone is intimidated, passing through pain or crying I just find myself crying along like a baby can be embarrassing sometimes but I just can’t help it.

Is there anything else you would like to add that I’ve included?

Born in Nigeria and am a graduate I am a very realistic open minded and considerate person even though I do a lot of day dreaming. I love to give a listening ear to everyone because I believe everyone has an opinion and something to say. Very desirous of reading and writing and I do a lot of research.
