Kindle Author Interview With Shari Sakurai

On the interview chair next is kindle author Shari Sakurai. Read on to find out what makes this author tick as she discusses writing and her new book Adam which is available on the amazon kindle store now.

Why do you write?

I've always had a very vivid imagination and I love creating different characters and telling their stories. I also love the escapism that writing gives me and I write for myself as much as for my readers.

When did you decide to become a writer?

I’ve always wanted to be a writer since I was a child. Our class wrote a story together about the teacher’s pet rat and I found that I enjoyed writing so much that I wanted to continue.

What genre are your books?

My books genres are horror, science fiction and LGBT.

What draws you to this genre?

They are some of my favourite genres to read so it felt natural to write in them too.

What made you decide to sit down and actually start something?

My circumstances at home changed which meant I was at a point where I could sit down and write a novel that I could publish. Before then I'd only been writing as a hobby.

Do you write full-time or part-time?

At the moment I write part-time.

Do you have a special time to write or how is your day structured?

I usually write in the evenings if it’s a weekday or during the day at weekends. I try to put aside some time every day for writing.

What have you written?

I've published two novels so far and have a third coming out in March.

Demon's Blood is a horror novel which is set in the fictional English city of Norfield. The protagonists are Japanese vampire Taku Kokawa and his English lover Thane Bremen. They were forced to flee their home in Tokyo after being discovered by vampire hunters. When the novel begins they are already settled in Norfield, however, both are battling their inner demons. Thane is haunted by the events in Tokyo and suffers from reoccurring nightmares. Yet unknown to Thane there is more to those events than he is aware of. As a consequence Taku is struggling against something much darker, something that could ultimately destroy him.

Perfect World is the first novel in a series of the same title. It is a science fiction novel set in twenty-second century England. The protagonist, Eric Rawlins, is a genetically engineered superhero and part of the London Security Agency (L.S.A), which is the organisation that created him. The L.S.A has given Eric the perfect life with his superhero abilities, longevity, celebrity status and beautiful girlfriend, but in reality they control him and use his popularity with the public to their advantage. Eric’s nemesis Adam Larimore was also genetically engineered and has a genius level IQ and longevity. As the novel progresses Eric begins to see a darker side of the organisation that he works for and also learns that Adam isn’t quite the villain that he’s made out to be. They become closer throughout the novel but Eric remains unsure of whether he can trust Adam or if he is being used.

Adam is a science fiction/LGBT novel and is a companion novel to my Perfect World series. Adam is about Perfect World’s villain Adam Larimore and tells the story of how he become a villain. It also starts to reveal some of the as yet unanswered questions in Perfect World Book 1 and sets in motion some events for later on in the series. Adam will be released on 12th March 2016.

Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just seeing where an idea takes you?

I prefer to just see where an idea takes me. When I’m writing I always feel as though I’m discovering the story as I go.

Where do your ideas come from?

I’m not really sure to be honest. I can get inspiration at any time really. The other week I was just on my way to work and inspiration struck!

What is the current book you are promoting?

The current book that I am promoting is Adam, the companion novel to my Perfect World Series, which is being released on 12th March.

What is your next project?

I have two novels that I will be working on next. The first is the follow up to Demon’s Blood and as well I’ll be starting to work on Book 2 of the Perfect World series.
